Authentic 1894 Rail Trolley for sale by TrolleyBrokers.com

Equipment ID: 497

Comments: This is the “Real McCoy,” a 42-inch guage rail trolley built in 1894 for the “Yellow Line” of the Los Angeles Railway System. In 1912 it was renovated and enlarged to the “California Car” configuration, 30 feet long.

The original electric motors, which were powered by overhead wires, were replaced by a Corvair gasoline engine, so it operates on its own power. The engine is located under the floor in the mid-section of the trolley, operates in 1st gear for yard movement and 3rd gear going down the track.

It is currently in use, but must be sold to make room for a new locomotive. This trolley is in perfect shape, has operator controls at both ends. Inspection by appointment.
